What is the Metaverse? 2024 Edition

Dear Innovators,

Welcome to the latest edition of the “Innovators” newsletter—your guide to the world of #VR, #AR, and Metaverse technologies for business. This newsletter summarizes the live programs I host, where I share proven methods for executing innovative projects alongside visionaries from leading corporations. The theme of this episode is “What is the #Metaverse?”

My name is Andrzej Horoch. I am the co-owner of ConnectedRealities.eu and the author of the book “Kierunek Metaverse”. My passion and profession involve creating and implementing breakthrough VR, AR, and Metaverse technologies in large companies.

What is the Metaverse?

(You can find the podcast link at the end of this text)

Although Zuckerberg did a lot to raise awareness about the availability of VR/AR glasses when announcing the Metaverse, he also inadvertently associated it more with games and frivolous, colorful avatars than with practical solutions for business. We saw these avatars doing things together, looking more like emoticons than real people, and moving through spaces resembling coloring books. On top of that, no one could really explain where the Metaverse was or how to access it. Sceptics and “innovation experts” quickly picked up on this atmosphere and declared the end of the Metaverse, yet tech giants, for some reason, are not slowing down—they are pouring millions more into investments in virtual technologies. Why???

Moreover, more companies are entering the game, including Apple with their Vision Pro. The collective efforts of the XR industry (a term we use to describe VR + AR technologies) are overcoming new steps in the digital evolution, where the boundaries between what is real and what is digital are simply blurring. We now have more and more equipment on the market to interact with digital applications and internet content in a way that more closely resembles discovering the real world with all our senses, rather than scrolling through websites on our smartphones. Businesses are utilizing VR technologies, and we are finally seeing more and more tangible success in the industry, especially in training, marketing, commerce, and education. The advantages of VR are numerous, as are the use cases, such as employee development paths within organizations. The better we understand the technology at the heart of the Metaverse vision, the more we’ll see that the Metaverse is simply a consequence of the evolution of our needs, innovations, and our digital evolution as a society.

But it’s best to listen for yourself. 25 minutes of a relaxed conversation about innovation in business :)—and if you haven’t tried VR yet, you must test it!
